One Final Day in the Mountains

After leaving Charleston, we stopped for one last day in Asheville. We had hoped to hike up the backside of Looking Glass Rock, but it’s a reputed steep and rocky slope, and there were storms in the forecast. Instead, we went back to Black Balsam Knob to hike across the balds. The hiking was easier, the views were spectacular, and we could keep an eye on incoming storms. Our intuitions led us back to the car just in time – thunder rumbled and as we were driving down the parkway, lightning flashed down the side of the mountain. We had another delicious dinner at Laughing Seed, were a little disappointed by the bouldering at Climbmax right across the street, and turned in early with Netflix at our Airbnb.

After this we hustled back to the car

Just one last note: this site was so valuable to us when choosing our hikes. We found all the information on the hikes we did to be accurate.
