This morning Nick and I attended this month’s Creative Mornings event here in Louisville and everything was on point.
The morning was hosted at ReSurfaced, an unused lot on Main St. that was turned into a popular venue last year. It was a warm one this morning, but being out in the open air was perfect. Holding the event at ReSurfaced only enhanced the sentiment that Louisville, and Kentucky, is going through a cultural revitalization.
The theme of this month was revolution, and there is no one who could better speak about this than the guys from Kentucky For Kentucky. A few years ago they worked toward re-branding Kentucky by promoting a new slogan for the Commonwealth, “Kentucky Kicks Ass.” You should definitely watch this video if you’re curious. This morning they shared 15 steps to creating a revolution, which included a mix of humorous (“use curse words”) and sage (“have a cause” and “don’t worry about making everyone happy”) advice.
As part of the event, attendees were asked to fill out cards with one thing they want to start, big or small, which were then attached to this revolution board. I would love to go through and read all of them.
At its core, Creative Mornings is a breakfast lecture series that not only provides quality speakers (at least in our town) but a space for creative thinkers to meet. I was happy to see a bunch of friends this morning, and to be able to chat over excellent coffee and doughnuts.
